Days Until Calculator
Pick a future date to find out how long until it arrives. Enter the date once and get the answer in days, weeks, months and years together.
How long until it happens, in every unit
The result above answers "how long until" in whichever unit you need. The headline gives the exact number of days remaining. Underneath it, four figures cover the rest of the question:
- Calendar breakdown — years, months and days together, the way you would say it out loud ("3 months and 10 days until").
- Total months — the whole span expressed as one number of months, useful for anything planned or billed monthly.
- Full weeks — the exact number of complete weeks remaining.
- Day counting — whether today itself is counted as one of the remaining days.
The calendar breakdown is calculated from the actual calendar, not from an average month length, so it always agrees exactly with the day count shown above it, even across a leap year or a run of short months.

How to calculate days until a date
"Days until" counts how many calendar days remain from today to a future date. The calculation subtracts today's date from the target date to give the number of complete days remaining.
Counting conventions
When a tool shows "X days until," it typically means there are X full days of waiting before the target day arrives. If today is Monday and the event is Friday, that is 4 days away (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday is the target). Some tools count today as Day 1, making it 5 days.
This calculator follows the most common convention: today is not counted, and the target date is the day you arrive at after X days of waiting.
Calendar days versus working days
Calendar days count every day, including weekends and public holidays. Working days (business days) exclude Saturdays, Sundays, and optionally bank holidays. For professional deadlines, use working days. For personal event countdowns, calendar days are more intuitive. Use the Business Days Calculator below for working day counts.
Common uses for days-until calculations
- Project deadlines: Days until a proposal is due, a product ships, or a presentation is scheduled.
- Legal deadlines: Contract signature windows, appeal periods, compliance deadlines. Missing by one day can have serious consequences.
- Tax and financial: Days until a tax filing deadline, estimated payment due date, or fixed-rate mortgage period ends.
- Travel: Days until a flight, a visa expires, or a passport needs renewing.
- Subscriptions and renewals: Days until a free trial ends, an annual fee charges, or a domain registration lapses.
- Events and celebrations: Days until a birthday, wedding, graduation, or public holiday.
- Warranty and returns: Days remaining in a return window or warranty period.
Backward planning with day counts
Knowing how many days remain until a deadline enables backward planning. If a deadline is 45 days away and a task takes 10 working days:
- 10 working days is approximately 14 calendar days (2 full weeks)
- You need to start no later than 45 - 14 = 31 calendar days from now
- If sign-off takes 3 working days, add another 3-5 calendar days as buffer
Why countdown tools sometimes disagree
Different tools give different answers for the same target date. Common reasons:
- Start/end convention: Does counting start today or tomorrow?
- Time zone: A tool in UTC shows different results than one using local time, especially near midnight.
- Inclusive counting: Does the target day itself count as one of the days?
This calculator uses calendar days in your device's local time zone and excludes the start date, which is the standard for most planning and legal contexts.
